Discover the fallacies of the ego! Recognise the ego as misconception! The opposite is not to be understood as altruism!

This would be love of other supposed individuals! No! Beyond “me” and “you”! Feel cosmically! -Nietzsche (KSA 9,11[7])

You’re on your lunch break and walking towards a restaurant. The smell of hamburgers waft into your nose causing your belly to grumble as if it hadn’t eaten in days. You walk inside and under the pressures of the grumble, you order a bacon cheese burger and fries. You eat it. You enjoy it. Now, you feel heavy and lethargic, all of the energy is being sucked up by your instinctive center to digest this meal. What if you had chosen the salad?

Does this phenomenon happen to us with the other forms of food we take in? When “eating” impressions, do the choices we make in our ingestion of them effect our energy levels, moods, and state? Do we need different kinds of impressions based on our moods or state? Are there impression “vitamins” that help keep our psychological nutrition balanced?

There is so much information out there about the care needed to maintain our physical bodies, but little for our psyche. It is up to us to learn how different impressions affect us and how to use them as tools rather then being puppets to them. Perhaps the most valuable way to do this is to use the exercise of divided attention when taking an impression in. Can you balance your attention between yourself and the impression? What does it do to your emotional center, moving center? Does your intellectual center have the discipline to be quiet to allow the impression to come inside, and then do you want this impression to come inside? These are question we can ask ourselves as we go through our days. Through this we can gain a sensitivity to the higher and lower impression around us and in observing their effects on us create a diet that can sustain our effort toward self- remembering.
