From a 75-93% success rate in the beginning at Akron and Cleveland, to an accepted estimated success rate of 1-3%, what happened to AA? I'll tell you what happened: Inaccurate statistics, that's what happened. While the 1-3% have always been the success rate quoted at meetings for as long as I have been sober, it's just not true. A recent study was done in which Bill's quotes were scrutinized and looked at more literally. Amazingly, it was determined that the infamous 1-3% number wasn't accurate at all - it never was accurate. All I knew was that I was going to be part of that 1-3%, if I had anything to say about it...and I did! But in reality, more than 26% of those who committed themselves to the program stay sober over the long haul
The truth is - and I love quoting THIS statistic at meetings - 100% of those who actually work the program stay sober. The program works if you work it isn't just another boring expression AA's use at meetings. It's the God's honest truth! Work the program to the best of your ability and the success rate is 100%
