We get a lot of certainty out of our old shadow lives,but not true fulfilment.The shadow life is the life before recovery we create actions within the shadow life that are not our true calling.In the desert they call it drifting sleeping whilst awake, on long camel journeys you become mesmerised by your own shadow. Drifting in the world no boundaries blown by fate It almost appears a more certain path. Its the illusion that prolongs addiction, Its the world of Wonga loans and betting, taking a gamble, taking the next drug to solidify uncertainty. Predicting the past and destroying the future its a delusion The shadow life is a false expression of who we really are. </blockquote>

It's what I'll call our "fate." That is to say - the way our life will turn out based on the circumstances of our life from birth. Fate is letting your life be defined by your conditions and by fear.A life driven by economic and emotional fear and anxiety. Fate is not destiny. Destiny is something you create. Destiny has a calling to it. And a beckoning out into the unknown. Our job in life - if we want to be happy, is to step into our destiny, into our calling, into our recovery. </blockquote>

For a long time in my life, I knew I was a writer. I was creative. I had creative dreams. But what did I do? I created so much anxiety and unexpressed creative energy that I almost killed myself with alcohol trying to cover it up. It was only through an act of twelve step GRACE that I was saved from my fate. And I've been on my destiny path for a few years now. It started out terrifying. And it's still scary, but not as much. Part of living your destiny and not your shadow life is being able to LIVE in the present and with uncertainty. It's about trusting our higher power to have your backs in our recovery. To expand our spiritual life without jealousy and envy. It's about realising you have a gift and your job is to GIVE the gift of recovery to yourself. It's about doing what's right, rather than what's easy. It's about turning your life into your recovery and showing up - whether you are inspired or not. Are you living in your shadow life? The bad news is that the answer to why you are angry isn’t out in the world - it’s within you. And it’s only bad news to the ego. The heart and the Spirit rejoice with this news.</blockquote>

 Check this out...This one is a painful lesson for the ego. Think about that one person or those few people who REALLY annoy you. Maybe they make you SUPER angry. Maybe you even hate them. Think about them for a moment... You thinking about them?? </blockquote>

<blockquote>
Yeah? Ok, so - right now, write down what makes you so mad at them. Take a second, pause reading this post and then write it down. Do you got it? Ok... now looking at that thing that makes you mad, chances are what makes you mad about someone else, or what makes you hate them, is an unresolved part of yourself. EEEEK! The ego is standing up right now and yelling - NO WAY! That’s IMPOSSIBLE! But, yes, dear ego, it’s possible; in fact it is. We resent and hate in others the unresolved parts of ourselves. And this is awesome because we can then flip the switch and begin to see those who anger us not as enemies or nemeses, but rather as who they really are - TEACHERS. </blockquote>

<blockquote>
They are teachers and guides showing us the unresolved parts of ourselves that still need work. So, our job on the Path is to notice when we get triggered and no longer blame the other person. Instead, we can go within to see what we are feeling. Below the anger is hurt. And the hurt is what we want to feel. The hurt could come from feelings that we're not enough, not loveable or that we're unseen. If we don’t feel Loved, significant or like we are enough, we feel hurt. And instead of feeling the hurt and taking new action to correct the hurt emotion, we get angry and then project that on others. I’m not suggesting that this is a passive thing and that action should not be taken. </blockquote>

<blockquote>
The kind of action that will change your life and eventually the world is NOT unconsciously angry action. No - but rather, conscious, loving action with awareness. And being understanding doesn’t mean you are a pushover. No, it means you take responsibility for your life - which means consciously choosing your actions. Being understanding includes standing up for yourself. But it also means taking responsibility for your current circumstances - no matter what is going on in the world. This great reversal is one of the major lessons we are being asked to learn in this lifetime. It’s here, today, for us to learn and integrate! So, can you celebrate and learn from those who anger you!? Do you have THAT MUCH COMPREHENSION?</blockquote>

Starting at the beginning of recovery we feel cut off from our feelings. We may feel chronically angry, depressed, spacey or numb. When we put down our drug, a day at a time, all sorts of long-suppressed feelings come roaring back to the surface. This is not comfortable. We handle it by talking and talking very fast, as if a rush of words could control the feelings and keep them at bay. we want to give permission for feelings to be felt. Whatever the we are feeling is OK. Of course, taking destructive action on a feeling is not OK, but we want to give the freedom to feel what they feel. Asking ourselves questions such as “What am I feeling right now?,” “When did I start to feel that way?,” “How do I feel now as I say that?,” or “Where in my body do I feel it?” can support us to recognise within ourselves the long suppressed feelings that bubble to the surface to become more comfortable with our felt experience.</blockquote>

Human reason and intelligence have been evolving over the centuries, but they're still undeveloped to be able to decode and decipher the true nature of reality and consciousness. When thinking logically, we tend to think in mostly "if, then" statements. If I'm a good person, then good things will happen to me. If I follow all the rules, then I will be rewarded. If something bad happened to me, then there must be something wrong with me. If I experience pain, then what's happening is bad. If I experience pleasure, then what's happening is good. But the problem with human logic, understanding, and our point of view is that they're extremely limited.</blockquote>

 If we truly understood this, we wouldn't be so quick to apply meaning to the events of our lives. Just because we feel good or bad in the moment doesn't mean what's happening is good or bad. When I was drinking alcohol, in the moment I felt good, unaware of the long-term effects of my actions. The nature of recovery is often counter-intuitive. What's bad is actually good and what's good is actually bad. This isn't a blanket universal truth, but it is something I would like for you to consider. Also, it's important to mention that even the dance between good and bad is perfect. We need opposites to learn, to grow and to evolve in our recovery. I would like for a moment for you to consider that the worst things in your life, seen from a new perspective, are actually your greatest gifts in recovery! I know it sounds impossible, but what if you were sent major suffering , not only to learn from it, but to help others, too? Through the lens of human reason, horrible things happen. Through the lens of recovery and understanding, horrible things happen as a path for us to collectively wake up, one person, one light bulb, at a time. </blockquote>

What gift would you like to claim for your darkest hour? What treasure is in the cave of your fear waiting to be seen? How can you show up with even more Love in your heart and give it to you and all those you meet? What new and empowering meaning can you express so that you can start to live in your life? The choice is yours. Who you are is more powerful than any recovery story you tell about your life, yet the story you tell about your life is what you get to experience. You have to journey threw the pain of recovery to experience its joy.</blockquote>

If we could accept only what we cannot change, that in itself would bring with it a considerable level of contentment. Acceptance is usually thought of as being passive, of letting events roll over us. And certainly that is one version of acceptance. But what if instead of using our powers to change what is impossible to change, we began to focus on changing ourselves from the inside? If there was a way for man to live on this planet and realise his highest possibility without suffering, we would have found it by now. But apparently there is no such path. Besides, do you really think that your path to finding yourself and fulfilling your potential can be devoid of suffering when every great spiritual leader that we know about in history has had to suffer?</blockquote>

 In the end we have to accept that a certain amount of suffering is necessary to get what we want. By accepting that suffering is necessary—that it is part of the human condition—you make it voluntary. This does not mean that you go out and find or create suffering, but when it comes to you, when it is part of your fate, then you must welcome it as best you can. Begin small. Find one or two small irritations that afflict you every day and accept them as a reminder to being present. If you are stuck in traffic, forget about your impatience and concentrate on being present and listening to music or observing yourself in that moment. If you want to be with someone and they can’t or don’t want to be with you, accept it. Move on. Be present to what is front of you now. You cannot come to big things if you ignore small things. </blockquote>

Your aim is to create a tendency to be present, and you cannot do that if you only want to be present to the things that you think are important. If you transform the smaller irritations, when the bigger problems come you will be more prepared. Did you lose your job? Did your car break down? Very well, these things happen. Don’t obsess about them. Make whatever decisions you need to make and move on. Concentrate on what you can do, not on what is impossible. Keep coming back to the present. Being present has a wonderful way of simplifying your life. Ask yourself: ‘What can I do about this now?’ Maybe there is nothing you can do. Sometimes you just have to wait. Possibilities come in their own time. Don’t be anxious about what you cannot fix right now. Look around. There is always something you can do. Don’t sit on your hands and worry about the future; that doesn’t fix anything. Clean you house or take a walk. Clear you mind. You’re looking for inspiration about how to proceed, and you won’t be inspired if you just sit around and worry. Each moment only has certain possibilities, and if you miss acting on those possibilities, you miss changing your future.</blockquote>

 All change occurs in the present, so as much as you can, live your life in the moment and act from there. It also needs to be said that a part of acceptance is learning to accept yourself. For some people in recovery this is a big struggle. They don’t like themselves; they can’t accept their flaws, the way they look, or the roles that they play. And they bring their dissatisfaction with themselves into their work toward recovery. Dissatisfaction can be a good thing. If you are disappointed with yourself, you can be motivated to change. But dissatisfaction becomes a problem if you become obsessed with changing what cannot be changed. we simply have to accept who we are and be present to that.</blockquote>

 It is a great trap to become so preoccupied with yourself—your flaws, talents, regrets, hopes and fears—that you miss out on doing some good in the world. It’s very liberating to forget about yourself for a while, to look around and see that your problems are no different than the problems of others. To accept yourself, as you are, and the whole of your fate is very big step on the path to recovery. If you can accept yourself, really accept yourself, you can jump to a new level where what you thought was impossible is suddenly and miraculously a reality.</blockquote>

The subtle addiction towards pills needs to be addressed in a Surrender Point, a decision to stop at this current point at which we recognised that we have tried and tried and tried again and nothing we "do" seems to work. Maybe we get so impatient, so fed up, so frustrated that we just want to give up and/or let go. OR perhaps we have been in an addictive pattern and life has gotten so unmanageable that we don't know what to do. The Surrender Point is a time in our lives when we get sick and tired of letting our ego and fears run the show; we don't know what to do and we just want to give up. </blockquote>

The Surrender Point isn't just a one-time thing; we can have many Surrender Point moments in a year even. But, I believe there is a chance for a welcoming future in Surrender Point moments. Our fears, insecurities and ego have small minded, unaligned agendas. Unaligned? Yes, we cannot think two thoughts at once. We cannot simultaneously think a thought of understanding and a thought of fear. And as a wise man once said, "Love is what we're born with, fear is what we learn here." So join with me on this thought for a moment. When we let thoughts of fear dominate our lives, we step out of our recovery and are no longer in alignment with our Higher Power. So, like a drop of water separated from the ocean, we separate unknowingly from the power that sustains us. As a result, our lives, our passion and our hearts begin to become even more consumed with fear. This cycle continues until we hit a Surrender Point. We hit a Surrender Point because the pain of continuing in our fearful habit is finally worse than the pain of changing, facing ourselves and realigning with our program. When we reach a Surrender Point, it should be celebrated. It means that we have finally let go of a lower and unaligned way of living and given in to our recovery. The wisdom and value in the Surrender Point is that we SURRENDER our fear and ask to be filled and aligned with the higher power in that moment. </blockquote>

That moment has to be NOW. We step away from our past habits and addictions that have distracted ourselves from ourselves and instead decide to face our shadow. Not with fear, but with understanding. Surrender Points are painful in the moment, but in the long run you will see them as the greatest moments of our lives. Are there any habits or addictions that you have that you want to give up? Prescription drugs and medication. How much longer do you want to subtly suffer knowing that you are participating in an unhealthy and unloving addiction? How much more pain do you want to endure before you give it up? Do you want your higher power to bring you a Surrender Point, or can you walk away now? I'm urging us to take a deep look at your lives and see what unhealthy and unloving habits, addictions and thoughts we can let go of. Not because it's so painful, but because we know that in doing so, we will liberate ourselves to live alongside our higher power in our life.</blockquote>

I've known most of my current friends for less than a few years, but it feels like a homecoming having them in my life. You may have to go against the wishes of your parents, loved ones or even religion to follow your dream. But your dream is spirituality calling you. Sometimes the message within recovery become so powerful it really shouts at me. Recovering threw the power of the program, not my wounded status. Has been for me a long process.I used to believe that the wounds of my addiction were my only identifier but they only identified my dysfunctional behaviour they have become the rash of my disease, not the solution to my problem within my recovery. The fundamental truth of these facts brought me to a spiritual rebirthing a catharsis a shedding of my past as a predictor of my future. My wounds emotional and psychical do not define me, they only identify where I have come from. They are station on my journey and speak nothing of the destination. They are not a label or a badge I have to wear, they belong to my past and do not define my future unless I want them too.The constant unpicking of the scabs of my old behaviours can regenerate the festering maggots of low self esteem that locked me into my addictive disease. </blockquote>

Imagine setting the intention to create primary recovery in my life that supports and encourages me into a life that is within my newly acquired power with the use of Step three – CONSCIOUSLY in every decision I make. I think this has always been an unconscious desire of mine, but those words hold a lot of power and understanding of my program, acceptance at depth that the battle is finally over against my selfishness, resentments and coming to the realisation that I have finally lost.That the program is my new beginning its my ground zero on which I have build a new life. Bonding over the pain doesn't help me and getting angry or jealous when the other person starts to step into their power of their recovery doesn't help me. Have you done that? I know I have, many times.I didn't know the answer to my problem so I keep identifying with the wounds. I couldn't get into my power. I had to hijack someone else's. All those inspirational speaker tapes I listened to rarely did they speak of rebirth most centred on the wounded soul or the subtle rebirth of their own egos. </blockquote>

When I bond over my wounds only, eventually it feels like I am walking on eggshells in my recovery. If you feel this way, then I can safely say I have not bonded over my power and thus not attracted a recovery that supports and encourages me to live within that power in my life. The flip-side of this desire is that I must also celebrate, support and encourage myself to live within the power of my recovery finding the will of that higher power, the power of my recovery in all aspects of my life. And THAT can be a difficult place to be. If I consciously live in my power, I have less certainty around what will possibly happen in my life. Less predictability. I have a feeling of loss of control, unmanageability and edginess starts to manifest itself, a sense of newness pervades everything I do. Life becomes an adventure in Step two. I have to start to learn to trust in something,some power outside myself. If I start to support someone else’s power they might get more attention than me, which can feel threatening to my self dominated life. I might be thrown out of the spotlight, marginalised in my recovery. My ego suffers I have to do less shouting, less demanding and more listening, I have to become a bold and confident person a person with high self-esteem to be able to bond over each other’s power and encourage the fullness in other persons in the fellowships or in the outside world away from our sometimes cosy recovery to be able to gain some semblance of humility, understand, learn a fundamental lesson in my recovery.</blockquote>

 Remember, time and time again, that other people are not the source of my recovery in the program. Its the higher power that fills me from within. We fill ourselves by loving ourselves. We fill ourselves by taking care of ourselves. We fill ourselves by choosing to surround ourselves with loving people and keeping high standards around who we give the privilege of our time to. We also fill ourselves by getting our eyes off of ourselves, our wounds and being of service to others. We reach out a helping hand to those in need with no expectation of return. We fill ourselves by doing meditation and prayer. Not by a constant examination of those old wounded tattoos. . </blockquote>

So, my question for me today is this: is the recovery in my life supporting my power or discouraging my power? Am I bonding over my addiction wounds only, or have I bonded over being in the mutual power of my recovery? Is my recovery set up so I can thrive? Or does the recovery in my life hold me back? Do I dwell on the wounds and loss, Am I addicted to my wounds and loss and not leaving enough space for my recovery. Am I prepared to live in the solution and not my wounded soul. And once we know what our relationship with our Higher Power is, “Established on such a footing we became less and less interested in ourselves, our little plans and designs. As we became CONSCIOUS of His presence, we began to lose our fear of today, tomorrow or the hereafter. We were reborn. (p.63 AA)</blockquote>

The subtle addiction towards pills needs to be addressed in a Surrender Point, a decision to stop at this current point at which we recognised that we have tried and tried and tried again and nothing we "do" seems to work. Maybe we get so impatient, so fed up, so frustrated that we just want to give up and/or let go. OR perhaps we have been in an addictive pattern and life has gotten so unmanageable that we don't know what to do. The Surrender Point is a time in our lives when we get sick and tired of letting our ego and fears run the show; we don't know what to do and we just want to give up. </blockquote>

The Surrender Point isn't just a one-time thing; we can have many Surrender Point moments in a year even. But, I believe there is a chance for a welcoming future in Surrender Point moments. Our fears, insecurities and ego have small minded, unaligned agendas. Unaligned? Yes, we cannot think two thoughts at once. We cannot simultaneously think a thought of understanding and a thought of fear. And as a wise man once said, "Love is what we're born with, fear is what we learn here." So join with me on this thought for a moment. When we let thoughts of fear dominate our lives, we step out of our recovery and are no longer in alignment with our Higher Power. So, like a drop of water separated from the ocean, we separate unknowingly from the power that sustains us. As a result, our lives, our passion and our hearts begin to become even more consumed with fear. This cycle continues until we hit a Surrender Point. We hit a Surrender Point because the pain of continuing in our fearful habit is finally worse than the pain of changing, facing ourselves and realigning with our program. </blockquote>

When we reach a Surrender Point, it should be celebrated. It means that we have finally let go of a lower and unaligned way of living and given in to our recovery. The wisdom and value in the Surrender Point is that we SURRENDER our fear and ask to be filled and aligned with the higher power in that moment. That moment has to be NOW. We step away from our past habits and addictions that have distracted ourselves from ourselves and instead decide to face our shadow. Not with fear, but with understanding. Surrender Points are painful in the moment, but in the long run you will see them as the greatest moments of our lives. Are there any habits or addictions that you have that you want to give up? Prescription drugs and medication.</blockquote>

 How much longer do you want to subtly suffer knowing that you are participating in an unhealthy and unloving addiction? How much more pain do you want to endure before you give it up? Do you want your higher power to bring you a Surrender Point, or can you walk away now? I'm urging us to take a deep look at your lives and see what unhealthy and unloving habits, addictions and thoughts we can let go of. Not because it's so painful, but because we know that in doing so, we will liberate ourselves to live alongside our higher power in our life.</blockquote>

The Solution Based Recovery Program you truly desire, yes everything you desire within that program that is meant to be yours will come when you are finally willing to become the person it takes to work it. One definition being willing as “inclined or favourably disposed in mind: ready.” And ready is defined as “prepared mentally or physically for some experience or action.” To prepare is defined as “to put in a proper state of mind.” And there, yet again, is the root of all things: our “state of mind.” If we were to reverse this and string all this together, we could infer that: When we are in the proper state of mind caused by fulfilling a program of recovery, that has mentally prepared us to be ready and willing, when we become surrendered to the program then and only then life opens up. This statement begs the questions: “What is the proper state of mind?” and “What are we preparing to be ready for?” If you want the answers to these questions, read on. First and most importantly let us ask, “What is the proper state of mind?” </blockquote>

Within our surrender we must open up. It is written that we must have the mind of a child in order to grasp the deeper meaning of life. What is a child like? A child is new, untainted and curious. A child knows nothing of failure, of heartbreak, of death or other people’s opinions. A child lives curiously in the present. The thoughts that there is no love out there, that our dreams are not achievable, that happy endings don’t exist or that you’re just not supposed to succeed. When we meet the journey with a new recovery mind, in every moment we begin to step into its magic. We begin to enjoy the journey instead of being terrified by it. When we have the mind of a child, we are humble and receptive to new information. We do not let our egos get the best of us, so that we can humbly follow guidance rather than thinking that we know it all. Having the mind of a child is the first step, but once we do, we have now properly mentally prepared ourselves for the journey into our recovering self. If we enter our journey with a tainted, jaded and cynical mindset, we will miss many opportunities and improperly label grace as disaster. </blockquote>
