A searcher after the Holy Grail of Serenity, or as someone engaged in the’ Hero’s Journey of recovery’ (all different names for the same thing) then we are continually engaging in a process of initiation, which Mircea Eliade defined in terms of our ‘Becoming another’…Initiation, he tells us, is ‘ Equivalent to a basic change in our existential condition; the novice emerges from his ordeal endowed with a totally different being from that which he possesses before his initiation.’ For the Tibetan Master, Dwaj Khul, Initiation is ‘Essentially a moving out from under ancient controls, into the control of more spiritual and increasingly higher values.’
